#GivingTuesdayNow is a global day of unity and generosity taking place on May 5, 2020 as an emergency response to the unprecedented situation caused by Covid-19.
This special #GivingTuesday event is a chance for us all to show our gratitude to those who continue to support us during the pandemic. Be they the NHS, the emergency services, Armed Forces personnel, supermarket staff, warehouse workers, delivery drivers, refuse collectors, public transport workers or postal workers.
We also won’t be forgetting the neighbours, friends, family, community volunteers and charitable organisations which continue to deliver vital services and speak up for those in greatest need across society.
#GivingTuesdayNow follows on from the amazing display of generosity by the people of the UK for the kick off of the 2.6 Challenge, which aims to help fill the gap in charity finances caused by the cancellation and postponement of countless major fundraising events that were due to be held this spring.
People across the country are being encouraged to share a message of thanks on social media and place a heart in their front window to demonstrate collective thanks to all the people and organisations which are helping us through these difficult times.
#GivingTuesdayNow is led in the UK by the Charities Aid Foundation, which has been part of the global Giving Tuesday movement since 2014. CAF is joined by a diverse range of partners including RBS, SalesForce, PayPal, Marie Curie, Porter Novelli, Lightful, Digital Reason, NCVO and The Big Give.
The Big Give has extended its match-funding commitment for the National Emergencies Trust (NET) Covid-19 appeal to include funds donated to charities up to midnight on May 5.
The UK's #GivingTuesdayNow lead, CAF’s Gráinne Mathews, said:
"The Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) is proud to lead #GivingTuesdayNow here in the UK and to join wholeheartedly in this celebration of the people and organisations helping us through such dark days.
"This special event on Tuesday, 5 May, is an excellent opportunity to think once again about supporting a charity close to your heart, as so many are struggling to help those need amid this crisis.
“The incredible range of partners who have joined with CAF in pulling together this special #GivingTuesdayNow demonstrate the commitment to supporting the UK’s charities as they work so hard for our communities. We are so grateful for their continued support.”
