PRINCE HARRY IS THE ROYAL MOST LIKELY TO INFLUENCE GIVING
12 November 2018
Prince Harry is the member of the Royal family most likely to influence people in the UK to give to a good cause, according to the Charities Aid Foundation.
Six months on from the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, CAF’s research found that Prince Harry - who helped set up the Invictus Games - is the Royal most likely to make people want to give to a charity he is involved with (14%), followed by the Queen (10%).
Similar research carried out in 2016 on behalf of CAF also put Prince Harry in the top spot in terms of prompting people to donate money. This year’s poll found the Duke of Sussex is much more likely to inspire women (18%) to want to give to a charity he is involved with, rather than men (10%). Men are more likely to want to give to a charity with which the Queen is involved - with 12% of those polled saying this was the case, compared with 8% of women.
CAF found that about one in eight (12%) of people say that they have given money to a charity that a member of the Royal Family was involved with. Younger people (aged 16-24) were the most likely to give money to charity if a member of the Royal Family supports it, with one in seven (15%) saying they would, compared to nearly one in 10 (9%) of all those polled.
Nearly a third of people think that supporting charities is the most important part of the Royal Family’s role. This rises to 44% of those aged 16-24.
- Prince Harry was the Royal most likely to inspire giving, followed by the Queen, then the Duke of Cambridge
- Three per cent of those polled said that Meghan, Duchess of Sussex is the Royal most likely to make them want to give money – but this rises to 8% of 16-24-year-olds
- The same percentage (3%) said that the Duchess of Cambridge was the most likely to make them want to give money
Sir John Low, Chief Executive of the Charities Aid Foundation, said:
“Her Majesty the Queen and members of the Royal Family do a huge amount to support charities across the UK and beyond. Our research highlights the impact that the younger members of the Royal Family are having on young people in the UK.
“Royal patronage adds status to an organisation, and many of us might not have heard of some remarkable charities the Royal Family endorses were it not for the fantastic work they do in supporting and promoting them.”
